Recently, a friend lost a loved one suddenly. As I struggled to find words of comfort, I started thinking about time. And how precious it is. And how, too often, we get so caught up in it that we don't really live.
We just exist - from meeting to meeting, appointment to appointment, from day to day - without ever meeting the fullest potential of our gifts, talents and blessings. We make excuses for why "I can't." Or we keep putting it off, insisting there is more time to do it later.
But what if there isn't more time? Not to be morbid, but the reality is, none of us know how much time we get to build relationships, travel, eat well, exercise, and reach the milestones we want. We don't know how much time our loved ones get, or how much time we get with them.
Yet, we wait until Valentine's Day or Thanksgiving to say I love you and I am grateful for you. We wait until Jan. 1 to start the exercise and healthy eating we should have started months before. We put off applying to that dream job.
So in the absence of certainty, this is my challenge to every Badass Army recruit out there: Live every day like it might be one of the last. That means living it to its fullest, and highest potential. It means signing up for the marathon. It means mending family feuds. It means finally taking that cooking class you've always wanted.
It means holding on tight to the people you hold most dear.
Being a Badass is about being true to yourself, and holding yourself to the standards and goal that you know you can achieve. It means giving 110 percent every single day. It means being the best friend you know how to be.
