Sometimes, we just don't wanna.
We don't wanna get up when the alarm blares for that early-morning workout. We don't wanna run. We don't wanna lift. We don't wanna hit the gym after a long day at the office. We don't wanna, period.
Trouble is, a few too many "don't wanna" days lead to "don't wanna" weeks, setting up a pattern that - over time - makes us unhealthy, overweight couch potatoes. So when "don't wanna" hits, it's important to have a reservoir of motivation that we can summon up in a pinch.
Mine is in my iPod, a mix called "Just Keep Going." These 10 songs make me move. They make me push. They make me get over that "don't wanna" hump. We all have our own music motivations. I hope you'll share yours in the comments section below, and I'll publish them all.
Shannon's "Just Keep Going" Mix
1. Sexy and I Know It, LMFAO: Cuz "I work out/when I want.." And because nothing is sexier than stronger you!
2. Till I Collapse, Eminem: Cuz you've got to work and earn that moment when you "collapse."
3. Gonna Fly Now, Bill Conti: Yes, the Rocky theme song is cheesy old-school. But I dare you to just sit there on the couch as the music builds up to that moment when Rocky runs up the steps in downtown Philadelphia.
4. Let Me Clear My Throat, DJ Kool: Old school hip hop that will make you want to shake it and get off that tailfeather!
5. Galvanize, The Chemical Brothers: "Don't hold back/My finger is on the button..." and the button is for 110 percent. No holding back.
6. I'm Really Hot, Missy Elliot: There's nothing hot about feeling lazy, blah and couch potato-esque. Missy E is sure-fire motivator who rocks her curves.
7. Let's Go Crazy, Prince & The Revolution: Fast beat, classic song.
8. Groove is in the Heart, Deee-Lite: I nominate this for the best one-hit wonder ever. Even if you just end up dancing alone in your living room, this will get you movin'.
9. Uprising, Muse: Rise up for the Uprising. This one is made for a hard row, a steep climb or a great weightlifting session.
10. Just a Girl, No Doubt: After this one's finished, you'll feel like Just a Girl...who can do anything. (PS: Guys, the dude version of this is "Lose Yourself" by Eminem, another of my faves.)
Coming up: Chris is 30 days from the end of his #360to30 journey, and we check in...
